The month of January includes two key dates for teaching: The World Education Day that is celebrated today, January 24, and the World Day of Environmental Education to be commemorated on Sunday 26. Both are dates that remind us of the importance to raise awareness and raise awareness about various issues such as environmental care, efficient water management or, why not, the gender gap that exists in scientific, mathematical and technological careers. All of them closely related to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda also in the educational field.
Aquona, from the 130 municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla León in which it is present, is also a promoter of the SDGs in the classrooms through two key projects that, coinciding with the world days of the education sector, want to value .
With the help of the Aquae Foundation, the company has launched the Aquae STEM project with a double objective: to contribute to the creation of STEM vocations (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) among students in grades 2-6 of Primary Education and raise awareness to the immediate environment of these students - classmates, teachers and families - so that they recognize and value this feminine talent. Thus, students from educational centers in Palencia, León, Zamora, Albacete and Ciudad Real have already begun the practical sessions along which they will have to solve challenges related to sustainable development and water, through a kit with the that will design, program and build prototypes of simple machines.
Aquae STEM is aligned with SDG 4 (inclusive, equitable and quality education), 5 (gender equality and 6 (clean water and sanitation) and is part of a national project that will reach 2,500 girls from 50 schools throughout Spain.
New edition of the Aqualogía program
How could it be otherwise, Aquona has started a new edition of its Aquology educational program, which is already a reference in environmental awareness in many cities and municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León.

This is a project linked to SDG 12 (responsible production and consumption) and aimed at primary school children in which the Integral and Urban Water Cycle is taught, as well as to care for and respect our environment.
During the past year, about 3,500 children participated in the more than 140 Aqualogy sessions that Aquona has organized in the classrooms of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León, a very positive balance that is intended to be overcome in this new edition.
In addition, to contribute to the dissemination of the culture of water among all ages, the company offers visits and open days to our facilities throughout the year, so that all interested parties can know first-hand the processes by which Water passes from when it is collected until it reaches their homes.
