Aquona fills streets, squares and schools with activities on World Water Day

Visits to complete water cycle facilities, Aqualogía workshops, live water tasting, book presentations, reforestation and sustainability projects are just some examples of how Aquona has celebrated this extremely special date.

The slogan chosen for this year's World Water Day was ‘Nature for Water’ and on 22 March Aquona showed its proximity and commitment to nature and the environment.

Water, nature and the environment

On 23 March in Zamora, the youngest took part in the activity ‘A name for a tree’. In collaboration with Apego Lácteo Association, children and their families enjoyed planting trees with their names in Valderrey meadow. On the same day, Aquona continued with the second phase of the project 'Reforest. One child, one tree’, organised by the Aquae Foundation, Zamora Town Council, and the Apego Lácteo Association in Valorio forest.
In Palencia, a workshop on nests was offered in the framework of the BiObserva environmental volunteering programme. Guided visits were organised to the city's ‘Camino de La Miranda’ drinking water treatment plant (DWTP) and its wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).
In Segovia, the doors were opened to the Segovia and Rancho El Feo drinking water treatment plants, as well as those of the municipalities of Cuellar and Palencia.

Water and literature

In Palencia, the manager of Aquona participated in the presentation of the book, Hacia un Agua Justa (Towards Fair Water), coordinated by lecturers from the Higher Technical School of Engineering in Palencia (ETSIIAA), Andrés Martínez de Azagra and Almudena Gómez-Ramos, in the school's events room.

Water and research

In Zamora, a talk was organised with a paediatrician, researcher and teacher at the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca and all participants will enjoy a healthy breakfast provided by Aquona Zamora.

Again in Zamora, environmental expert Joaquín Araujo gave a talk on Radio Televisión de Castilla y León's breakfast programme, sponsored by Aquona.

Water and health

In Palencia, the Town Council and Aquona invited people to participate in a water tasting event in the municipal water service offices.
In Zamora, water tastings were held and tours of the Alto de los Curas drinking water treatment plant were offered for different groups from the city, so they could find out first-hand about the quality of the city's water.

Segovia residents also became expert water tasters with the help of Aquona, at water tastings in the city's Plaza Mayor.

Water and education

Aquona highlighted the importance of education and environmental awareness. On World Water Day, over 450 schoolchildren from Palencia, Zamora, Aguilar de Campoo, Arroyo de la Encomienda and Briviesca took part in the Aqualogía education programme, an Aquona initiative for children from the third year of primary school. The aim was to provide information about the importance of water and how to use it differently, through a fun, educational session.

As part of World Water Day, Aquona continued with its contest 'Aquona, caring for water. Join us'. The contest is aimed at children from fifth and sixth year of primary school and designed to get them involved in caring for water through smart consumption, in other words, consumption that is efficient, ecological, social and sustainable. The deadline for sending videos is 26 April and the awards ceremony will be on 5 June. The three videos that receive the most likes on YouTube will win prizes of €1,000, €600 and €400, respectively. You can find more information on Aquona's website: www.aquona-sa.es.

A variety of activities were undertaken in which Aquona showed its firm commitment to raising awareness, education, health, research, literature, the environment and nature.
