Aquona collaborates with the Red Cross to collect new toys

The aim: to collect new, non-violent, non-sexist toys and games for the children and young people who need them most.

Red Cross Youth has presented its campaign ‘Your Rights at Play’, which this year will have a web platform designed to encourage society to say YES to the Toy Campaign and collaborate so that the most disadvantaged children can enjoy their right to play.

This campaign, aimed not just at collecting toys, but also raising social awareness of the importance of the right to play in childhood, is being implemented by more than four hundred local Red Cross offices. They will mobilise over 3,000 volunteers to carry out awareness-raising tasks and deliver toys to the families that need them most.

Aquona in Castile and León will participate in the collection and from today will have a collection point for this campaign in its offices in Ponferrada, Zamora, Valladolid and León.

'Children are one of the groups who are suffering most from the effects of poverty in homes, as families have enormous difficulties in meeting the most basic costs of living. As stated in the Red Cross bulletin No. 13 on social vulnerability, which focused on the children attended by our organization, 18% of children say they do not have games or toys', stated Carlos Cortés, director of the Red Cross Youth.

In the campaign  ‘‘Your Rights at Play’,’ Aquona aims to support and disseminate information about the Red Cross Youth's collection of over 120,000 new, non-violent, non-sexist games for over 60,000 children and adolescents, to ensure the right to play for the most vulnerable children throughout the year.

How to collaborate in the ‘Your Rights at Play’ campaign

This year, in addition to giving games at established collection points, people can collaborate in the campaign by making a donation on the Red Cross website which will automatically be transformed into a virtual game, via the telephone 900 10 49 71 and by SMS message with the word JUGUETE sent to 38088 (€3)*. All funds donated by these means will be used entirely to purchase toys for children in families experiencing social difficulties.
