Aquona and Aquae Foundation promote scientific vocations among Primary school students with the Aquae STEM Program
Awakening the interest of Primary school students in the scientific, mathematical and technical disciplines is the objective of the Aquae STEM program that this course is developing its second edition in a dozen educational centers in Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León, directly impacting on 300 girls and more than 1,000 students in total.
Today, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, one of the webinars is being held within the cycle of online talks that Aquae STEM is promoting to bring students of Primary Education closer to the experiences of engineers, mathematics, biotechnologists or Spanish computer scientists that can be a reference for them and that can contribute to promoting STEM vocations among girls. Today, the nanotechnologist, Tatiana López, will tell about her life trajectory as a nanotechnologist and founder of ‘Nanogap’, a company in the same field.
“In addition to acting on girls, Aquae STEM also seeks to generate a positive impact on children and their families, in order to create a favorable environment for girls to develop their careers in more scientific and technical areas that have traditionally been attributed to male profiles ”, explains Laura de Vega, Aquona's Director of Sustainable Development. In addition, Aquona and Fundación Aquae have provided the teachers who are involved and are receiving training in the project with a series of certificates so that they can integrate them into their professional curriculum.
In Castilla-La Mancha, the schools participating in Aquae STEM are Don Quijote, Miguel De Cervantes, Pérez Molina y Ferroviario, from Ciudad Real and the Diocesan School from Albacete. In Castilla y León, they are the San José de Zamora, the City of Buenos Aires and Tello Téllez de Meneses schools in Palencia, CRA Cerecedo in León, a city in which CEIP Gumersindo Azcárate has also joined the program this year.
