Benavente Town Council and Aquona are committed to reducing water poverty for the fourth consecutive year
Through this agreement, the company will contribute 15,000 euros to reduce water poverty in the municipality
Benavente Town Council and Aquona have signed a social agreement for the renewal of financial aid to combat water poverty in the town, where Aquona manages water supply and sewer services.
The mayor of Benavente, Luciano Huerga, the councillor for Social Welfare, Antonio Vega, and the director of Aquona, Jesús García del Valle, signed the agreement during an event held in the Town Hall.
This is the fourth year (2018) that Aquona has contributed a total of 15,000 euros to ensure access to water for individuals and family members in Benavente suffering economic difficulties. All those interested in benefiting from the financial aid can send applications until 17 May.
According to Department of Social Welfare data, a total of 196 people at risk of social exclusion benefited in 2017 from social fund grants for the water service.
The city's mayor, Luciano Huerga, highlighted Aquona's social and education works and classified as 'vital' its collaboration to ensure access to water for people without resources.
The director of Aquona, Jesús García del Valle, mentioned that Benavente was the first city to have this kind of social agreement, but that it has since been extended to other towns in which Aquona is present, both in Castile and León and in Castile-La Mancha. The result is that 76% of all customers have access to social funds or subsidised tariffs.
